Beans N Barrels – First Look at one of the newest pub destinations of New Town.!
Situated strategically bang opposite to TCS Gitanjali Park Complex, Beans N Barrels is one of the recent additions to the ever-growing landscape of cafés, restaurants and bar in the city of Joy. Looks can surely be deceiving though; the very first impression at this place from outside would reflect the presence of a beautiful and cozy café, with the aesthetic sofa hanging from the top, and the floral presence, draping around the lush green section of the floor. The other section of the café is a well decorated bar, illuminated by the bright chandeliers and the woody barrels decking up the bar.
Be it their café or the bar, this place serves some mouthwatering dishes, along with some refreshing mocktails and some fine cocktails depending on where you are seated at, the café or the bar. We started with Fish Taipei, which had boneless chunks of fish tossed in a green chilly paste, probably of coriander, and topped with some finely cubed bell peppers. While the fish was soft, the presence of the green paste is what stole the show. Next to come were Bacon wrapped Pineapples – Medium sized chunks of pineapple, covered with crispy fried bacon, and tossed in a semi-glaze of a sweet, sour and tangy sauce.
Served with mashed potatoes, the combination of the crisp salty bacon along with the sour pineapple was a match to look for. The Grilled Chicken Steak had tenderized chicken cubes cooked in brown sauce, and served with mashed potatoes and garlic bread. The Jamaican Chicken were delicious, with the grilled chicken being drenched in a Jamaican sauce marinade, something a bit sweet and tangy and was served with herbed rice. Grilled Salmon was the highlight of the day, with the salmon done just right, and served with asparagus, mashed potatoes and panna cotta.
The sweet orange glaze on which the mashed potatoes were placed on, when combined with the creamy panna cotta gave a heavenly touch, a taste unmatched and unparalleled. For Indians, we tried the famed Mutton Lal Maas, a popular dish hailing from Rajasthan. The fiery red chilies, combined with the sweet and tangy tomato gravy was perfect to pair with the tender Butter Naan. This place also offers a BNB Special Meridian Platter on weekdays from 1 PM to 3 PM, with a curated vegetarian platter for Rs. 349 and a non-vegetarian platter for Rs. 389 only.
You also get to choose a complimentary drink with this, be it Beer, Wine, Screwdriver, Mojito, Blue Nile; with the standard measurement for alcoholic drinks being 30 ml. The non-vegetarian platter comprised of a stuffed taco, tornado potatoes, herbed rice with a poached egg, sliced chicken cooked in a spicy and tangy tomato sauce and a dessert, very well justifying the price tag of Rs. 349. Not to forget the Beer, which accompanied this platter and all the deliciousness, that came along with it. Beans N Barrels also offers a good variety of mocktails and cocktails to go along with your food.
We tried a Orange Delight and Blueberry Cheese Shake, with the latter being mixed properly having a strong presence of the blueberry cheese cake, tagged along with blueberry crush, a slight hint of sweetness and a mint leaf for the aroma. The LIIT had tequila, vodka, gin, old monk and cola, Bull Margarita had a mix of Red Bull and Tequila, Apple Sangria was made of Red Wine, Apple and Cranberry Juice, Planter Punch was comprised of old monk, orange juice and pineapple juice and Sexy Genies had Tequila, Gin, Grenadine Syrup, Tonic Water and Cucumber.
The last drink of the day, the Irish Coffee was concocted out of Irish whiskey, espresso shot and whipped cream. The Chocolate Fudge Waffle looked equally good like the way it tasted. Drizzled with hot chocolate fudge sauce, the crispy and gooey waffle had this mesh and web of transparent candy floss, with some drizzle of colored sprinkles here and there. Quite an artistic expression, the meal here could not have ended any better. Do visit this place if you are around, the food and the drinks here are only going to get better in the days to come.
